Shoes in the News!

Aphrodite project high tech platform shoes with GPS and video screen

Even if you are not Jane Bond, who couldn't use a pair of shoes with built in GPS, audible alarm, emergency signal transmission to police or other groups, secret compartment, video screen and speakers for playing music, displaying messages or custom videos, downloading music, email access, locating your friends, etc. These super high tech platform shoes were created for The Aphrodite Project, and are designed to increase the level of safety for women working in the sex industry. Designer Rui Leonardes had his male models in stiletto high heel shoes as part of his collection for the Royal College of Art's Fashion Graduate show in London. One of the models was unable to walk in the shoes and another model stated that he thought they were very "rock and roll." We expect to hear more about Rui Leonardes in the future. These are a great design for a pair of adjustable heel shoes from Sophie Cox. Just twist off the heel and put on the low heel for walking, then put the higher heel back on when you are ready to be back in high heels.

Here is another great design for a pair of adjustable heel shoes from Ella Kilgour, called the Declic. The 4 inch stiletto heel can be folded into a recess under the shoe, converting it to a comfortable 1 inch heel for walking.

Women going to great lengths for their high heel shoes: There are now workout classes called Stiletto Strength at Crunch Fitness to help women strengthen their legs and work on posture and poise while wearing high heels. There are also women getting toe shortening surgery to make their toes fit better in their prized Manolo Blaniks or Jimmy Choos. The Great High Heel Heist of 2007 : A truckload of fancy high heel shoes by designer Taryn Rose has been stolen in Los Angeles. Over $50,000 worth of high end shoes that were specifically designed to be worn by celebrities at the Golden Globe Awards has disappeared. Taryn Rose's clients include Gwen Stefani, Angelina Jolie and the Oprah.

Sex and the City

You just can't have a website about high heel shoes and not mention the hit HBO series Sex and the City! With episode titles like "A Woman's Right to Shoes" and Carrie Bradshaw's (Sarah Jessica Parker's) obsession with expensive designer high heel shoes, there were many occasions for mentioning the name Manolo Blahnik. Carrie gets a pair of Manolo's stolen at a party, and another time by a mugger.
